Changing Seasons

One of my favorite seasons is undoubtedly spring, with it marking the end of winter, which is long, dark, and very cold. It also marks the coming of summer. It’s a season filled with signs of new life all around. It’s a wonderful season, though I have to say that, coming from Calgary in Canada, spring tends to be very short-lived there. In Calgary, it seems some years we don’t have spring all, but simply go straight into summer.

This means that we don’t often have the time to watch spring slowly unfolding. This last year I’ve been living in England, and we had a lovely spring. It was a time where God was speaking a lot to me through nature. The most striking message to me was about change, not the change from winter to summer, but the letting go of what we have in this season so we can embrace the new, and often unknown, things that God has for us in the future.

God spoke this picture to me most vividly through the flowers we had on the grounds. With the short spring season in Calgary we don’t get to see many types of flowers coming and going in spring. But at Ellel Grange I got to see many flowers coming and going, such as snowdrops, crocuses, daffodils, primroses and bluebells. As each type of flower starting fading, making room for new ones to come, God spoke to me, showing me that I often mourn coming to the close of a season. I don’t always realise that things need to come to close to make room for the new, which will also be beautiful in a different way.

Perhaps you’re in a place of transition at this time. Even if you aren’t right now, it will come in the future. Things with the Lord never stay the same. I’d like to encourage you to fully embrace what God is doing in the seasons of change, even if it means letting go of things that you love, as God may be bringing something new and wonderful into your life. Whatever His purposes are in your life, be assured that He always works things for our good.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, please forgive me for the times I have not trusted Your plan for my life, when I could not see what was happening. Thank You that Your plans are for what is best for me. Help me to trust You more fully and lead me into Your purposes for my life, Amen.

Scripture

“Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert”.
Isaiah 43:18–19, NKJV
