God’s Compassion

Recently, when helping out at Blairmore, during ‘Bridge from the Head to the Heart’, one of their creativity courses, we were sitting in the breakfast room, where we observed one of the guests sitting across the grass on the steps of the conference room, weeping her heart out. She wasn’t aware of us, as she was so engulfed in her own situation, deep in the depths of her own despair.

As we sat there praying for her, my husband remarked how God was looking down on her and totally aware of her, even though she probably felt He was far away. His heart of compassion for her was seeing everything that was going on, recording every tear, not missing a moment of whatever was going on within her right then. After a little while, one of the ministry team came alongside her and just held her, as she continued to weep deeply.

Isn`t that just like our heavenly Father? No matter what’s going on in our lives, He sees everything. He doesn’t miss anything that happens to us, not one thought or emotion passes Him by. As we pour out our hearts to Him, He hears us even our lowest whisper and He meets with us.

Just like the person who drew alongside this lady and just let her cry on her shoulder, our precious Lord Jesus is always there just for us, tenderly holding us and meeting us just where we are. He’s aware of all our pain and hurt, and always wants to help us. He’s waiting for us to come to Him and pour out our hearts before Him, and there He’ll meet with us.

In Psalm 86:15, it says, ‘But you, O Lord, are a God of compassion and mercy, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness’. What a wonderful Saviour we serve, who cares so deeply for us that He’ll go to any lengths to draw us back into the safety of His fold, no matter how far we’ve wondered away! When we come to the end of our own resources and cry out to Him to help us, He’s there for us.

‘Who am I, O Lord, that You are mindful of me. You are mindful of me. You, O Lord, have put Your arms around me. When my heart was weary You sent Your word and healed me. O Lord, O, Lord!’ (Song ‘Who am I’ by Karen Davis - Galilee of the Nations Music)

Prayer: Father, we’re so thankful for Your great love and compassion reaching out to us, no matter what depths we find ourselves in. Help us to put our hand into Yours, and let You lead us through the valleys into your wonderful freedom. Amen.
