Born to Be Queen (Part 1)

God’s plans of salvation for His people are often shrouded in humility and well hidden until the appointed time and the day of their unveiling.

Her humble beginnings did not betray God’s plans and purposes for this girl Esther’s life. Hidden among the children of captivity, Esther was also an orphan, and therefore without the natural and spiritual covering of parentage. She could easily have passed through life without any record being made of her existence. However, the Lord took her up (Psalm 27:10), and having provided her cousin Mordecai, to be her guardian and take care of her, this ensured that Esther was in the right place at the right time for the events which were about to unfold.

Having dishonoured the king in front of his guests, the reigning queen, Vashti, at the king’s edict, was now deposed. The way was now open for Esther’s advancement as the new queen, for she won his favour and affection, above all others. God was about to unveil His plan, not only for an orphan, but for the nation of Israel.

Mordecai, himself, had uncovered a plot to kill the king, and when the matter was found to be true and the traitors dealt with, a record was made in the king’s journals of Mordecai’s good turn. Thus, by God’s design were both Mordecai and Esther in the kings’s favour.

There are times when we do not understand the plans of the Lord, and the way that He takes us. God’s greatest plan for the salvation of mankind likewise took place in the humblest of circumstances, when He, whose right it is to reign, was wrapped in swaddling clothes and laid in a manger. But following His ignominious death and subsequent glorious resurrection, God the Father has ensured that Jesus is the name at which, one day, every knee must bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

So, if you are treading a road fraught with challenges, or if there are times when you have felt that your contribution in life seems insignificant, then as long as you know that you are in the centre of God’s will for your life, know that you are chosen by the King of kings and be encouraged that God is the rewarder of those who diligently seek him (Hebrews 11:6). He has the bigger picture and has in mind for each of us ‘plans for success and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope’ (Jeremiah 29:11). ‘Those who have sown in tears will reap with joy, and ‘He will restore the years that the locusts have eaten’.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You that Your plans for us are far greater that we can ever imagine. Help us, Lord, to trust You more, as we walk with You day by day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
